Nake Nula Waun (Nah-Kay ,New-Lah, Wah- OO) is a Rap/Hip-Hop Group from the Rosebud Sioux Tribe in South Central South Dakota. The name Nake Nula Waun is a traditional Lakota phrase which means “I am always ready, at all times, for anything.” This phrase was used to describe warriors before they went into battle. This is more than just a name for the band members, it’s a way a life. Growing up on the Rez or city, you have to be “always ready, for anything, at all times.”
Nake Nula Waun has been together for three years with each members having years of prior experience in recording. Nake Nula Waun consists of: Thomas Schmidt AKA JS who is currently serving our country in the Marines and has displayed a deep love for music since he was three years old. JS has been rapping and recording music for the better half of his life. Frank Waln is a Gates Millenium Scholar who studied two years of pre-med at Creighton University in Omaha, NE before giving it all up to pursue his dream fully and put everything into music. Frank has been playing piano since the third grade, and been making beats and producing music for 7 years.
Frank will be attending Full Sail University in Orlando, FL where he will use his Gates Scholarship to study Recording Arts and obtain a Master’s in Music Business in 3 years. Andre Easter AKA Dre is originally from Richmond, VA and brings that with him in everything he does, from his lyrics to his general demeanor. Dre gets his motivation from where he grew up and the life choices he has made when he was younger, hoping that his three kids choose a different path and do not have to see the hard times that he chose to see.
Dre has always been involved in music, from singing in his church choir to recording with artist when he was back in Virginia, but has finally found his musical niche… NAKE NULA WAUN
